880 Cast Iron Inverted Bucket Steam Trap

The Armstrong 880 Cast Iron Inverted Bucket Steam Trap combines the proven reliability of the inverted bucket design with a built-in integral strainer for added protection against dirt and scale. Built with a cast iron body rated to 250 psig at 450°F (17 bar at 232°C), the Model 880 handles capacities up to 4,400 lb/hr (2,000 kg/hr) with a maximum operating pressure of 150 psig (10 bar). Designed for horizontal installation, the integral strainer eliminates the need for a separate line strainer, reducing installation costs and potential leak points.

The inverted bucket design uses a free-floating stainless steel mechanism with no fixed pivots to create wear or friction. A unique leverage system multiplies the force provided by the bucket to open the valve against system pressure. Because the mechanism is located at the top of the trap, dirt cannot collect on the orifice — small particles are held in suspension until discharged by the full differential purging action when the bucket sinks.

Key Features

  • Integral strainer eliminates need for separate line strainer
  • Free-floating stainless steel inverted bucket mechanism — no fixed pivots to wear
  • Continuous air and CO₂ venting at steam temperature
  • Cast iron body rated to 250 psig at 450°F
  • Discharge orifice at top of trap — self-cleaning design
  • Field-repairable internals for lower maintenance costs
  • Resistant to water hammer

Applications

Ideal for drip, tracer, and process applications where pipeline debris is a concern. The integral strainer protects the trap mechanism while providing efficient condensate removal. Available with screwed NPT and BSPT connections in 1/2″ (15 mm) and 3/4″ (20 mm) sizes.
